Altimeter - New App for iOS, Android and the watches

This altimeter either uses GPS or the built in barometer (if available) to determine your current elevation on earth. While GPS provides the absolute altitude as long as you see the sky it is not very accurate. With the help of the barometer we can calculate the altitude indoors and outdoors with a much higher accuracy. But we need a reference altitude to calibrate the barometer altitude. This calibration will degrade over time as the air pressure changes with the weather.

Available for:

Features:
  • GPS and barometer based altitude
  • set a base altitude as starting point and get the altitude difference (e.g for hiking or biking)
  • calibrate the barometer altitude (connect the current air pressure to your current altitude)
  • calibrate with the help of GPS, the standard sea level air pressure or to any altitude you want
  • time difference to the last calibration
  • warning when it is time to calibrate
  • switch between metric and imperial units

The Apple Watch App

By running Altimeter on your Apple Watch you have the current altitude always on hand without taking out your phone. You can choose between GPS and barometer altitude. For a quick direction you can use the glance view.

The Wear App

By running Altimeter on your Android Wear watch you have the current altitude always on hand without taking out your phone. You can choose between GPS and barometer altitude.
By setting Altimeter as your watchface you have the altitude always on hand when you activate your watch (without loosing the ability to read the time). Just flick your wrist.

Roll a dice on the watch

The new version of my Letter Dice app runs now on the Apple Watch as well.

The new app has more predefined dice (A-Z, 0-9, ...) and supports the iPad multitasking (split view,...) of iOS9.

Cook your easter eggs with Boiling

It is widely known, that the boiling temperature of water isn't constant. It depends on the air pressure. Only for the mean pressure at sea level it will be 100°C (212°F). Therefore with rising altitude the boiling temperature will drop quickly. On Mount Everest it is 68°C (154 °F) only. Why bother? The time to cook eggs depends on the temperature, which means above sea level it takes longer to cook them to perfection.
So far you could have used my Boiling app to calculate the boiling temperature for any altitude. But many modern smartphones come with a internal pressure sensor (e.g. the iPhone 6, the Nexus 4). So with the new version of Boiling you can calculate the water boiling temperature for your current air pressure which not only depends on your current altitude but on the current weather as well.

Air Pressure - New App for iPhone, iPad and Android

Air Pressure shows the current local air pressure (in hPa/psi, Torr, atm, altitude above sea level and percent of average pressure at a reference altitude), measured by the internal pressure sensor (if available) or a nearby weather station for which it uses your current location. The background color changes with the pressure value.

Features:
  • the background color changes with the pressure value
  • the pressure is automatically updated
  • set a reference altitude: current altitude, sea level or custom altitude
  • pressure units: hPa/psi, Torr, atm, altitude above sea level and percent of average pressure at a reference altitude
  • compare with reference pressure at a reference altitude
  • the location is automatically updated when you move
  • metric and imperial units
